What Is BBL™ Therapy?

BBL™ Therapy uses carefully controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light to target pigment, visible blood vessels and the deeper layers of the skin. The light energy encourages your skin’s natural renewal process while also stimulating collagen production, helping to improve both the appearance and overall quality of the skin.

Rather than simply treating the surface, BBL™ works beneath the skin to address the underlying causes of many common concerns. Treatments are personalised to your skin type and goals, allowing us to safely target multiple concerns in a single session.

What Can BBL™ Treat?

BBL™ Therapy is a versatile treatment that can improve a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Pigmentation and sun damage: Helps reduce the appearance of age spots, sun spots and uneven pigmentation caused by years of UV exposure.
  • Redness and rosacea: Targets visible redness and broken capillaries to create a calmer, more balanced complexion.
  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing: Stimulates collagen production to support firmer, smoother-looking skin over time.
  • Uneven skin tone and texture: Improves overall skin clarity, leaving the complexion brighter and more even.
  • Visible small blood vessels: Reduces the appearance of superficial blood vessels that can contribute to facial redness.

Am I Suitable for The Therapy?

BBL™ Therapy may be an excellent option if you are concerned about pigmentation, persistent redness, sun damage, uneven skin tone or the early signs of ageing. Many patients choose BBL™ because it offers noticeable skin rejuvenation without surgery or lengthy recovery.

Every person’s skin is unique, which is why treatment always begins with a consultation. During your appointment at The Ezra Clinic, we will assess your skin, discuss your concerns and treatment goals, and determine whether BBL™ is the most suitable option for you. If it is, we will create a personalised treatment plan designed around your skin and the results you would like to achieve.

BBL™ Treatment – Treatment Overview

Understanding what happens before, during and after treatment can help you feel confident about your appointment. Our team will guide you through every stage of the process and ensure you know exactly what to expect.

Before Your Treatment

To achieve the best possible results, it is important to prepare your skin before treatment. We generally recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure, fake tan and certain active skincare products for a short period beforehand, as advised during your consultation.

Preparation requirements vary depending on your skin and treatment plan, so you will receive personalised guidance before your appointment to help ensure your skin is ready for treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

Your skin will first be cleansed, and a cooling gel will be applied to improve comfort and allow the treatment handpiece to glide smoothly across the skin. During the procedure, you will feel a series of quick flashes of light, often described as a warm snapping sensation against the skin.

Most patients find the treatment very comfortable, and the integrated cooling technology helps minimise discomfort throughout the session. Depending on the size of the treatment area, appointments typically take between 20 and 45 minutes.

Results and Recovery

One of the advantages of BBL™ Therapy is the minimal recovery time. Mild redness or a feeling of warmth is common immediately after treatment, but this usually settles within a few hours. Pigmented areas may temporarily darken before naturally flaking away over the following days.

Some patients notice improvements after a single treatment, while the best results are typically achieved following a course of sessions. As collagen production continues over time, improvements in skin tone, texture and overall radiance develop gradually in the weeks following treatment.

Aftercare

Looking after your skin following treatment is an important part of achieving the best results. We recommend protecting your skin from direct sun exposure, wearing a high-factor sunscreen every day and avoiding excessive heat, such as hot baths, saunas and vigorous exercise, for a short period after treatment.

Your practitioner will provide personalised aftercare advice based on your skin and treatment plan, helping your skin recover comfortably while supporting the best possible outcome.

FAQ

Is BBL™ treatment painful?

Most patients find BBL™ treatment very comfortable. The sensation is commonly described as a gentle warm snap against the skin, similar to the flick of a small elastic band. The advanced cooling technology built into the system helps improve comfort throughout the procedure, making the treatment well tolerated by most patients.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on your skin concerns, their severity and the results you would like to achieve. While some patients notice improvement after a single session, many achieve the best results with a course of treatments followed by occasional maintenance sessions to help preserve their results.

How long do results last?

Results can last for many months with good skincare, consistent sun protection and maintenance treatments where appropriate. As your skin naturally continues to age and is exposed to environmental factors, occasional top-up treatments may help maintain your results over the long term.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime following BBL™ Therapy. You may experience mild redness or warmth immediately after treatment, similar to a light sunburn, but this typically settles within a few hours to a couple of days. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities straight away.

Is BBL suitable for my skin type?

Suitability depends on several factors, including your skin type, skin tone and the concerns being treated. During your consultation, your practitioner will carefully assess your skin and discuss your goals before recommending the most appropriate treatment plan. If BBL™ is not the best option, we will advise you on alternative treatments that may be more suitable.

BBL™ vs IPL – What’s the Difference?

Although both treatments use light energy to improve the appearance of the skin, BroadBand Light (BBL™) is a more advanced form of light-based technology than traditional Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). BBL™ offers greater precision, customisable treatment settings and the ability to target multiple skin concerns with a high level of consistency.

During your consultation, we will recommend the treatment that is best suited to your skin, concerns and desired outcome, ensuring you receive the safest and most effective approach.

Can BBL™ be combined with other skin treatments?

Yes. BBL™ can often be combined with other aesthetic treatments as part of a personalised skin rejuvenation plan. Combining treatments may help address multiple concerns more comprehensively and optimise your overall results.

For example, BBL™ is frequently paired with MOXI™ laser treatment, which focuses on improving skin texture, tone and early signs of ageing. Together, these treatments can provide a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation. During your consultation, we will discuss whether combination treatment is appropriate for your skin and your aesthetic goals.

What should I avoid after BBL™ treatment?

After your treatment, it is important to give your skin time to recover. For the first few days, avoid excessive heat, including hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise if your skin still feels sensitive.

You should also avoid exfoliating products, retinoids, glycolic acids, salicylic acids and heavily fragranced skincare until your practitioner advises it is safe to resume your normal routine. Be gentle with your skin and avoid scratching or picking at any areas that begin to flake naturally.

How should I care for my skin after BBL™ treatment?

Keeping your skin protected and well cared for will help achieve the best possible results. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day and avoid direct sun exposure for at least one to two weeks, as treated skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light during the healing process.

It is normal for mild redness, warmth or slight swelling to occur immediately after treatment. If pigmentation has been treated, darker patches may temporarily appear before naturally flaking away over the following one to two weeks. If you experience blistering, broken skin or any unexpected reaction, you should contact The Ezra Clinic for advice.
